Seven Events Scheduled for the Fourth Annual Volunteer Hardy Initiative
Plan to take advantage of some upcoming opportunities to learn about and support Hardy County volunteer-based organizations during the Community Foundation’s 4th annual Volunteer Hardy initiative.
Volunteer Hardy began in 2014 with the intent of shining the spotlight on the vibrant community service sector and the organizations and volunteers who work tirelessly to make Hardy County thrive.
Seven fundraising events have been planned in August and September. Event details for are as follows:
Saturday, August 26th – Chicken Barbecue hosted by the Moorefield Lions Club. 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Moorefield Town Park. Cost $4.00 per half chicken.
Saturday, August 26th – Ice Cream Social hosted by the Mathias Ruritan Club. 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Mathias Schoolhouse Cafeteria. Other items available including pork sandwiches, hot dogs/chili dogs, pie and cake. Cost varies.
Sunday, August 27th – Bingo hosted by the Baker Ruritan Club. 2:00 p.m. (doors open at 1:00) in the East Hardy High School Cafeteria. Prizes include items from Longaberger, Pampered Chef and Thirty-One. $20 per player ($10 for an additional packet). Must be 18 or older to play.
Saturday, September 30th –
- Raffle drawing for six items made by local artisans. Raffle hosted by the Lost River Educational Foundation and Lost River Artisans Cooperative. Tickets on sale now at the LRAC during regular business hours (Fridays 12 – 5; Saturday/Sunday 10-5). 1 for $1, 6 for $5, and 13 for $10.
- Red and Cookie’s Big Breakfast hosted by the Funkhouser family in memory of Red and Cookie Funkhouser and in honor of their dedication to giving back to their community. 7:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Wardensville United Methodist Church. Good will donation.
- Bake Sale hosted by the East Hardy High School National Honor Society. 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Capon Valley Bank – Baker Branch. Cost varies.
- Hardy Hot Dog Fest hosted by the Wardensville Lions Club. 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Wardensville Bingo Shelter. Cost varies.
Proceeds from these fundraisers will benefit the many valuable programs and activities of each organization, as well as the Community Foundation’s unrestricted grantmaking fund (Community Impact Fund), which supports a wide variety of charitable causes throughout the county.
