Community Foundation Awards $93,150 in Scholarships to Eastern Panhandle Students

The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation (EWVCF) honored 59 students at the annual Scholars & Donors Reception held at the Purple Iris on Thursday evening. Thirty-two endowed funds that were established by donors to honor loved ones awarded a record $93,150 in scholarships this year. Recipients included seniors from every public high school in West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle.
Awards ranged from $500 to $5,000 and Martinsburg High topped the list with 18 students receiving scholarships. There were eight seniors from Musselman High, seven from Hedgesville, and three from Spring Mills. Seven Jefferson High School seniors received scholarships, as did two from Washington High. Four seniors from Berkeley Springs and one from Paw Paw rounded out the list.
A number of renewal scholarships were awarded to students already enrolled in college or university and Maerin Phillips, a second-grader at St. Joseph School, received a renewal scholarship as well. Major financial support for the Scholars & Donors Reception is provided by the foundation’s Partners in Philanthropy, especially Cornerstone Sponsors:  BB&T Wealth Management, Bowles Rice LLP, CNB Bank, First United Bank & Trust, Jefferson Distributing, and United Bank.
We will be editing and posting dozens of great photos on our Facebook page during the coming days so please take a look and “like” our page if you haven’t already done so.
