Flood Relief Challenge Donations Top $32,000

On June 29th, Randy Smith asked the Community Foundation to spearhead a campaign to raise money to support flood relief efforts in Southern West Virginia. With a $10,000 pledge from Randy’s fund, we got to work, identified two exceptional nonprofit organizations, and promoted the Matching Funds Flood Relief Challenge on our Facebook page.

The response was overwhelming and donations poured in. Within three weeks we’d surpassed the $20,000 goal so we approached other Advised Fund donors and the McMillan Family Fund, the Scott & Linda Roach Fund, and the Kreinik Family Fund all pitched in to add to the challenge. On August 16th we reached $32,326 and were able to send a check for $24,169.50 to West Virginia Voluntary Organizations Assisting in Disaster (VOAD) and a check for $8,056.50 to the Nicholas County Community Foundation.

We are truly grateful to the following donors who stepped up and opened their hearts and their checkbooks to support neighbors in need.
