West Virginia Humanities Council

The West Virginia Humanities Council and some very special friends invite you to a reception to meet our new Executive Director, Eric Waggoner, and to hear about some of the good work being done by the West Virginia Humanities Council & the Hampshire and Hardy County Community Foundations.
Refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public. 

Following the Council’s friendraising event, be sure to join in the fun by participating in The River House’s Trivia Night!  Join the regular hosts, the Grassi family, and test your smarts over different rounds of trivia questions. The Humanities Council’s new Director will kick things off by asking a special round of West Virginia trivia.

The West Virginia Humanities Council, an independent nonpartisan nonprofit, is the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Founded in 1974, the Humanities Council works to promote a vigorous program in the humanities statewide in West Virginia.

The West Virginia Folklife Program, a project of the West Virginia Humanities Council, is dedicated to the documentation, preservation, presentation, and support of West Virginia’s vibrant cultural heritage and living traditions. The West Virginia Folklife Program employs West Virginia’s first state folklorist to carry out this work.

The Hampshire County Community Foundation and the Hardy County Community Foundation were founded in 2005 and 2007, respectively, to build local, permanent endowment to generate annual charitable grants and scholarships forever. They are affiliates of the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation. Founded in the tradition of community foundations across the country they focus on working with local people to build local assets to meet local needs.
